July Reads

August 6, 2020

Whew! It’s already August! I can’t believe that we’re still in partial quarantine, with no end in sight. I feel like we were all pretty optimistic at the beginning, but it’s becoming more of a struggle as time passes without getting back to normal. July was a pretty good month for reading, with some YA, some Fantasy, and of course lots of mystery/thriller. I read 7 books, which seems to be my average during quarantine. Read on to see what I read in July & let me know what you’ve been reading in the comments!

My Morning Routine

July 16, 2020

Good morning friends! I have really enjoyed working from home over the past few months, but it took me a little while to get in the groove of having my house be both my home & my office. Creating a designated office area to work from definitely helped, as well as getting into a set morning routine. Having a good morning routine helps set the tone for the day. I love reading about what other people do to set themselves up for a successful today, so I wanted to share what I have implemented for myself.

P.S. My lounge wear set is by Vici. The pants are sold out, but the sweatshirt is still available in limited sizes. I’m sharing some similar ones that are in stock below!

Get ready for a long one, because I did a ton of reading while I was in quarantine! There were definitely a few big hits & a few misses. Read on to see what I read & let me know what you’re reading in the comments!

Blackout Tuesday

June 3, 2020

I had a post about beauty products that was supposed to go up yesterday, but, with everything going on around us, it just doesn’t feel like the time to be discussing blush. So I didn’t post here &, like so many others, participated in Blackout Tuesday on Instagram. As I scrolled through Twitter, I I found links to articles on the protests & listing of black-owned businesses. I also found opinions both in support of & questioning the efficacy of Blackout Tuesday. I understand both the desire to take a stand & do something, & the feeling that posting a black box on social media isn’t really addressing the issues of racial inequality & police brutality. I want to be a better ally & a better advocate. Leslie Mac said that “Effective allyship… is rooted in the needs of those most affected.” While I cannot understand the injustices my BIPOC friends & colleagues go through, on Monday I said that we must educate ourselves on what actions we can take to stop the injustice that we are seeing before us. So, instead of spending time scrolling Instagram yesterday, I used that time to watch footage of protests across the country & the world, researched the many reasons behind the protests, & read up on how I can be a better ally. Below is a short list of some of the articles that I’ve read & some other blog posts with additional resources.

Looking Back on the Last Decade

January 9, 2020

Welcome 2020! A new year & a new decade is upon us, & I can’t lie – it’s got me all in my feelings over here. The year that Patrick & I started dating, 2011, I started collecting photographs & began making an annual photo album. Over the holidays, we went back through all 8 of them & it was so amazing to have all of the memories in such an accessible format. It really got me thinking about how far my life has come over the last decade & today I wanted to share a little bit of that.

Book Reviews: Vol. VII

July 9, 2019

Hello friends! I hope that everyone had a great 4th of July weekend! We spent most of the weekend relaxing & I spent a good bit of it it curled up with a book, which you know if my happy place! I’m back today with a roundup of everything I read in June. As usual, it’s heavy on the thriller/mysteries, with a Jodi Piccoult thrown in for a little variety. I read two books by Alafair Burke this month, The Better Sister & The Wife, both were excellent! What are you reading right now?

Book Reviews: Vol. V

March 22, 2019

I have reading up a storm lately, so this set of reviews is another long one.  All in all, this was a much better set of books than my last one!  I was also lucky enough to receive two pre-releases, so a big thank you to Lake Union Publishing!  (I’ve noted those for reference, &, as always, any opinion is strictly my own.)  Finally, if you want to keep up with what I’m currently reading at any time, I added a Goodreads widget to the sidebar!  Now on to the books!

Let’s Chat: Why I Stepped Back for a Moment

September 24, 2018

break-from-bloggingHappy Monday sweet friends!  I don’t have a look, or a book list, or really anything in particular to share today.  While I’m not sure that anyone noticed, today I wanted to take the opportunity to have a little chat & explain why I chose to take a break from blogging & social media for the last few weeks.
