Summer is a time for lighter make-up & I’ve been wearing more shimmer than I do in the fall/winter. This is a look that I work for a date night to have oysters on Tuesday night & I wanted to share it with you guys! Below is everything that I used to create this shimmery-eye summer look.
Bare Minerals barePro Performance Wear Liquid Foundation // Tarte Double Duty Beauty Shape Tape Contour Concealer // MAC Prep & Prime Fix + // Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge // Bare Minerals Mineral Veil Finishing Powder // Urban Decay Optical Blurring Brush
Morphe + Jaclyn Hill Eyeshadow Palette // Morphe M513 Brush // Morphe M573 Brush // Morphe E17 Brush // IT Cosmetics No. 220 Small Shadow Brush // Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner // NARS Larger Than Life Eyeliner // L’Oreal Voluminous Mascara
NARS blush // MAC 168 Large Angled Contour Brush // Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Highlighter // Morphe M530 Brush // Buxom Full-On Lip Cream
Start with your regular foundation routine. Here’s mine: I apply Bare Minerals barePro Performance Wear Liquid Foundation with a sponge, like the Real Techniques one (it’s just as good as the Beauty Blender but less expensive). barePro a full coverage foundation, so I only use two pumps to cover my whole face. Before the first pump & between each each time I use the sponge to blend the foundation onto my skin, I spritz the sponge with MAC’s Prep & Prime Fix + to dampen the blender & help keep my foundation on. I use Tarte’s Shape Tape Concealer under my eyes, down the bridge of my nose, & in each nostril crease on the side of my nose (a Jaclyn Hill trick to keep your makeup from thinning out). I keep spritzing the sponge with Prep & Prime Fix + each time I blend the concealer into my foundation. To set my foundation, I dust Bare Minerals Mineral Veil Finishing Powder over my face using a fluffy brush like the Urban Decay Optical Blurring Brush.
Now on to the eyes! I use the Jacyln Hill palette every, single day. It’s got every shadow that you need to create almost any look. At only $38, it’s a steal!
1: Begin by brushing “Silk Cream” into the crease & up toward the eyebrow, using a fluffy blending brush like the Morphe M513 Brush. Silk Cream is a light to medium peach color, with yellow undertones. It gives a good base & I almost always start any eyeshadow look with this shade.
2: Blend “Pooter” into the crease, over part of the Silk Cream using the same blending brush. Pooter is a warmer medium brown that blends nicely into Silk Cream & adds a little depth to the crease.
3: Brush “Buns” onto the outer corner of the lid, blending up into the outer half of the crease with another fat, blending brush Morphe M513 Brush. This may be my favorite color in the palette! Buns is a warm, matte, reddish-brown that is perfect for deepening the outside corner of your eye.
Now that your base colors are done, it’s time to add that shimmer!
4: Press “Meeks” onto the outer corner of the lid, right over the Buns, with a dense, tapered brush like the Morphe E17 Brush. Meeks is a warm, golden bronze that will keep the depth that Buns added, while giving your lid the shimmer we’re looking for.
5: Press “Obsessed” onto the inner corner & middle of the lid, up to & blending into Meeks, with a flatter brush like the IT Cosmetics No. 220 Small Shadow Brush. Blend a little bit of Obsessed over the crease area too. Obsessed is a light, metallic beige that I think has a hint of lavender to it.
6: Press a small amount of “S.B.N.” onto the center of the lid, where Obsessed & Meeks meet, using the dense, tapered brush. S.B.N. is a deeper, pinky, bronze color that blends Obsessed & Meeks nicely, drawing some attention to the center of your eye.
To finish off my eyes, I add a thin line of liquid black eyeliner (my fave is Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner) along the top lashline & a thin line of gel black eyeliner (like NARS Larger Than Life Eyeliner) along the bottom water line. You don’t want your liner to be too thick because it will overtake the shimmer look that you’re going for. After curling my lashes, I apply my trusty drugstore L’Oreal Voluminous Mascara. I’ve tried so many expensive mascaras & keep coming back to this one.
Once my eyes are finished I apply NARS blush in “Orgasm” from the apple of my cheeks in an upward swipe along the underside of my cheekbones, toward my temples, using an angled brush like the MAC 168 Large Angled Contour Brush. There’s a reason that Orgasm has a cult following, it is one of the most universally flattering blush colors & the only color that I wear. Why change up what works so well, right? Since we’re going for shimmer, I added Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Highlighter in “Champagne Pop,” using the Morphe M530 Brush, along the top of my cheekbones, down the bridge of my nose, & along my brow bones. Really, highlighter works anywhere that the light would normally strike your face, hence the name – highlighter! Finish off the look with a pretty pink lipgloss. I love Buxom’s Full-On Lip Creams because they give great coverage, have amazing shine, & have a plumping effect. Voila! You’re ready to go!
