Temperatures are starting to drop here (though it’s still above 90 degrees everyday), so I’m starting to plan my fall wardrobe & shoes are a huge part of that! I love that shoes are an easy way to add some interest to a simple outfit. Booties and boots are a fall staple & this year, a stacked heel and slight western edge are the trend in booties. I’ve had my eye on these Vince Camuto booties for weeks now! The trend in boots is the taller the better, with most reaching above the knee. All the better to keep my legs warm! I’m also loving the lace-up trend for pumps & sandals. These sexy Stuart Weitzman sandals are on sale now.
A few weeks ago we took a long weekend to visit family in Dallas. Here’s my drinks & dinner look from one of the nights. I wanted something that was dressy enough for a night out, but still comfortable since we’d be walking between locations in Uptown. I it’s one of my favorite, go-to tops – a hot pink tunic from Zara. It’s lightweight, a little flowy, & the most perfect shade of bright pink. The necklace is one that I received in my first Rocksbox & couldn’t live without! It’s the Maddie Crystal Necklace by Perry Street. It helps dress up any look, from a cocktail dress to jeans & a button down. I’ve been pleasantly surprised with this Gigi All-in-One bag‘s ability to corral cash, credit cards, makeup, phone, & keys. While that isn’t sufficient for day-to-day (I carry practically everything I own in a huge tote), it’s everything I need for drinks & dinner.
I love, love, LOVE back to school! There’s something so familiar & exciting about shopping for new fall clothes & supplies. It’s still pretty warm here, but back to school is a time to look toward fall, so I’ve given you some of my favorite fall staples. New jeans are a must & are perfect when paired with a long tunic & faux fur vest. I love the almond toe on these Vince Camuto booties, they’ll be cute & comfy. Don’t forget to grab a stylish agenda to keep you on task!
See It. She Find’s “30 Things Every Woman Should Own by the Time She is 30” is the ultimate list of things you should be purchasing in your 20’s. Like the author, at some point in my late 20’s I realized that I was wasting money on disposable clothing & accessories, rather than splurging on items I’ll have forever. I’m also a typical Taurus who loves comfort & luxury. I come in at 21 out of 30 items, but I have my eye on a classic DVF wrap dress in the (hopefully) near future!
Love It. I first got Urban Decay’s 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in one of the brand’s Oz sets & immediately fell in love. This is seriously the best eyeliner that I have ever owned. It comes in 40 shades and 6 finishes from matte to glitter. With Jojoba Oil, Vitamin E and Cottonseed Oil, it goes on creamy (stays that way for apx. 30 seconds for blending) & dries to a long-lasting & waterproof finish. The creamy consistency makes it foolproof to apply. The color stays put & stays vibrant all day long. Could you ask for anything more in an eyeliner?
Want It. Ok, so I’m a little late to the Clarisonic skin care system. This Mia cleansing brush goes beyond your average cleansing to loosen dirt and oil to clear your pores, while helping to reduce oily areas, dry patches and blemishes. It makes your skin more receptive to skincare ingredients, is waterproof for easy use in the shower, & is the perfect size for travel. I’ve been seeing them everywhere for years, but never took the plunge. But, I can’t ignore the hype forever, so I’ve added it to the top of my splurge list.
It has been unbearably hot for the last few weeks, but it’s usually too cold in my office for a sleeveless look. Our A/C was out at work last week, giving me the perfect opportunity to wear light summer dresses! This dress combines the gingham trend with a breezy fabric that’s perfect for this heat. I combined it with understated jewelry & cut-out pumps to dress it up a little for the office.
See It. I’m an introvert by nature, so my ideal weekend would be a time to unwind & recharge. Somehow that never seems to happen & my weekends end up just as packed as the week. I try to squeeze in activities that didn’t make the cut during the week, which gets exhausting. I think that many of us overload ourselves in the mistaken belief that success comes from constant hard work. Enter Career Girl Daily’s 7 Activities that Super Successful People Do During the Weekend! Turns out that a time for recharging, reflecting, & spending time with loved ones can help you succeed!
Love It. I’ve been a subscriber of every monthly beauty box on the market, but I ended up with a box of samples that I may never use. Then I found Rocksbox – for $19 a month, Rocksbox will send you 3 pieces of gorgeous jewelry at a time! Start by completing a style quiz & building a wish list. Then a stylist will select 3 pieces to send to you from collections like Kendra Scott, House of Harlow, & Gorjana. You have the option to keep any of the pieces for a discounted price, or send them back to exchange for new pieces. So far, I’ve received two boxes & kept one piece (pictured above). I’m still debating a piece from my latest box.
Want It. I’m a sucker for anything personalized. It doesn’t matter if it’s my name, monogram, zodiac sign, whatever – I’m going to want it. I love that this gold-foil-stamped Taurus print uses the constellation, rather than the typical bull image. It’s modern & feminine at the same time, & would look perfect in my office!
I’ve worn this sundress so many times already this summer! It really is the perfect piece for looking put together in the summer hear. The breathable linen is perfect for keeping cool without much effort. I love that the embroidered detail spices up the simple little white dress. Add white wedges and a delicate bar necklace, and you’re ready for any outdoor fete. I’ve also added denim jacket or blue cardigan for work.
Today I want to share a hair product that has changed my life! I got a sample of this little gem in my Birchbox last year & it sat in my maybe-I’ll-try-this-later box of samples for a few weeks. I have super fine hair that tends toward oily, so I’m always suspicious of leave-in treatments. They tend to weigh my hair down and/or make it look greasy. After a friend, who has a similar hair type, raved about the Beauty Protector – Protect & Detangle, I decided to give it a try. I’ve been using it daily ever since & cannot praise it enough!
First, it smells great! While not critical, it’s always a nice treat to have good-smelling products.
Second, it detangles! My fine hair tangles up instantly when I get out of the shower. I’m trying to grow out my hair some more, so it’s important to protect against breakage that can occur when combing out wet hair. Protect & Detangle makes it so much easier & less painful to manage my wet hair.
Third, it protects! If I’m going to wear my hair down, I have to wash it in the morning. Washing at night only leads to oily, unmanageable hair in the am, & a ponytail. Washing in the am also means I have to blow-dry it almost daily to avoid going to work with wet hair. Protect & Detangle has reduced the broken/split ends & fly-aways that come with constant blow drying, plus it helps protect the color from heat.
Fourth, it lightly conditions! As I said, my fine hair leans toward oily, so I can’t deal with heavy conditioners. They also tend to weigh my hair down. With Protect & Detangle, even after blow-drying, my color-treated hair is soft & shiny. It’s lightweight so I don’t feel like I lose any volume either.
Finally, it’s versatile! I use it daily on wet hair to detangle & protect before blowing drying. But, it has also come in handy to detangle dry, windblown hair before brushing out.
Top: Loft, very similar on sale! // Jeans: Loft (an extra 60% off!) // Shoes: old, similar & similar // Bag: Rebecca Minkoff, similar // Ring: Pink Peonies Collection // Necklaces: Kendra Scott; Stella & Dot, similar
Here’s a quick look at what I wore for a recent date night. I apologize for the poor quality photos, it was a spur of the moment shoot with an iPhone! I planned the entire look around the fabulous, ruffled red shoes. I’ve had them for years & don’t wear them often enough! I went with my favorite fluid tank from Loft in black (the cream version was shown here), skinny jeans, & delicate gold jewelry.
See it. One of my favorite parts of summer is the opportunity to spend time outdoors with friends & family. And there is no better outdoor activity than cooking out! Food52’s 10 All-American Classics is a timely collection of classic foods that includes everything from deviled eggs and potato salad to pie and fudgesicles. I’m excited to try the rosemary-brined buttermilk fried chicken!
Love it. After seeing this skirt on Suburban Faux-Pas, I decided that I had to have it. It’s fun, it’s flirty, it can be dressed up or down, and best of all – it’s covered in flamingos! It arrived yesterday & it’s even better in person. I can’t wait to wear it out! Expect some photos soon.
Want it. I’ve always sketched and painted, so I recently decided to explore graphic design as a creative outlet. It is easier for me to sketch by hand, then import a design into an Adobe program for finishing up. I recently discovered Paper by FiftyThree, which is an amazing app that allows you to freehand sketches, diagrams, paintings, etc. on your iPad. The Pencil is a stylus designed specifically for use with Paper. Although it connects to Paper, bit also works as a non-connected stylus in any other app and on any other touchscreen. I cannot wait to get my hands on one!
