My birthday was last week and my friends took me to dinner this weekend to celebrate! We love any excuse to get dressed up and I took full advantage this year. I saw this hot pink Marchesa Notte dress on Rent the Runway awhile back and fell in love with the bright color and sequin details! I paired it with black strappy sandals and some sparkly earrings. The dress was cute, comfy, and a huge hit!
Summer is almost here! Although I tend to be a wimp about the heat and humidity that summer brings, I love the outdoor gatherings that come with it. We spend lots of summer afternoons by the pool or on the lake, so I’ve collected my favorite swimwear trends that are perfect for whatever gathering you have planned.

I am so pleased and excited to announce that my little adventure into custom and personalized stationery is now open for business! I have always doodled and sketched, but have rarely shared my work. As a child I dreaded sending thank-you notes, which were mandatory after every birthday and Christmas. Now, in a world where I text more than I speak on the phone, there is something truly traditional and thoughtful about a hand-written note. My note cards feature original, digital artwork and many can be personalized with your name or monogram. I’m starting off slowly with a few designs, but plan to continue adding more over the coming weeks!

Mother’s Day is right around the corner. Here are six ideas for gifts that she’s sure to love.
1. Custom Photo Print. I love giving personalized gifts and this custom photo print is the perfect to showcase your favorite family photos.
2. The Book of Joan. “Joan and Melissa Rivers had one of the most celebrated mother-daughter relationships of all time.” This memoir by Melissa Rivers would be a great choice for a book lover.
3. Candle. The scent of lilac blossom mixes with lily of the valley and sweet violet for the ultimate spring fragrance. The three wix candle fills the room with a light fragrance.
4. Scarf. For the fashion conscious mother, choose a bright geometric scarf that can be worn into the summer.
5. Birchbox. If your mother loves beauty products, treat her to a year of customized samples with a subscription to Birchbox.
6. Bracelet. Let your mom wear your love and appreciation with this Kate Spade bangle. The outside reads with priceless mom advice: sit up straight, say thank you, do your homework, play nice, say please, go play outside.
I am always looking for ways to spruce up the outdoor areas of our house because we spend so much time outdoors during the spring & summer. I found this floral lantern project on pinterest & have been dying to put one together for my patio table.
This project is super easy & I’ve gotten a ton of compliments on it so far! Here’s what you need:
Medium sized terra-cotta pot
Small terra-cotta or plastic pot
Flowers of your choice (I used petunias)
Glass hurricane lamp globe
Start by adding some potting soil to the medium terra-cotta pot. It should be full enough so that the rim of the smaller pot, when placed inside the larger pot, is level with the rim of the larger pot.
Fill the smaller pot with pebbles or rocks. Then fill in the space between the pots with additional potting soil.
Plant flowers in the space between the two pots. I used petunias because I love the way they will spill over the sides. The candle will be placed in the center of the pebbles. Slide the glass hurricane globe over the candles, the pebbles should hold it in place. The glass will protect the flowers from the flame & protect the flame from wind. Voila! You have an easy & inexpensive centerpiece for an outdoor table!
See It. April showers can make for some very dreary spring days. It rained for over a week straight here. I was beginning to think that I would never see the sun again! It was enough to make the best day seem like a bad one. Career Girl Daily’s list of 14 things to do when you’re having a bad day is sure to turn those dreary days around!
Love It. My new iPhone case arrived yesterday & I am in love! A good rose is the perfect spring drink – it’s light & refreshing. Such a nice change from the heavy reds that I lean toward during the colder months. I stumbled upon Yes Way Rose on Instagram & have been following for recommendations & news ever since. I got the springy iPhone case from Society 6. It’s cute & a little cheeky.
Want It. I have a thing for flamingos. I love the grace, the vibrant color, the fun. This dress has a classic, fitted silhouette and length that are office appropriate. I’d wear blazer or sweater over it because of the cut-out back, which adds a sexy touch for after work. Plus pink is my favorite color, so it seems like this dress was made for me.
Last weekend we had the pleasure of attending a friend’s wedding in Jackson, MS. On Saturday we met up with an old friend for breakfast & some sight-seeing. This was our first trip to Jackson & we couldn’t have had better weather for it. You can probably tell by my squinty eyes that it was bright & sunny! I paired a breezy windowpane tank with jeans & wedges since we would be spending plenty of time outdoors. Stay tuned for more information on where we stayed, ate, & visited in Jackson!
Is it just me, or does your purse feel 10 pounds heavier by Friday afternoon? I start the week with a nice, clean, organized bag, and end up carrying around everything I own. It doesn’t matter how small the bag is, I try to cram as much in as possible. The result is a disorganized mess and an aching back.
My iPhone is the one item that I can never leave home without. It contains my calendar, my email, my contacts, etc. & is the most essential part of my day. That being said, I’m trying to learn to disconnect from the constant inflow of information at home & spend more time focusing on my time with friends & family.
For some reason, as I get older, my eyes have become more sensitive to light. Instead of constantly squinting to see, I always carry sunglasses. I’m hoping that it will help cut down on the small lines that have begun appearing around my eyes.
This one is a no-brainer. Having my calendar & to-do list with me at all times makes sure that I’m over-committing myself or double scheduling. It helps me to stay on track, even on the most hectic days.
4. Hand lotion
I’ve already talked about how much I love Aveda’s hand relief, so it’s no surprise that I always have a small tube on me. Hands tend to be one of the first areas to show aging, so it’s important to keep them moisturized. I rub in a small dot every time I wash my hands.
You never know when you’ll need to sign something or take notes at a meeting. Having a pen on hand just makes life a little easier, & doesn’t take up much room.
I received a small mirrored compact as a gift years ago. One side is a regular mirror and one side has some magnification. It’s a perfect size to keep in my makeup bag for touch-ups.
7. Lip balm
There is nothing that can ruin your look quite like chapped lips. I keep a tube of Malin & Goetz mojito lip balm in my bag. It keeps lips moisturized & protects against sun/wind. It has a great light & refreshing scent, & is shiny enough to double as a lip gloss.
I think that we’ve all had one of those lunches where you eat something garlicky or with onions, then get back to the office & wish you had a toothbrush. I keep mints or minty gum in my bag so that I can keep my mouth feeling somewhat clean no matter what I’m eating.
See It: This weekend we’re traveling to Jackson, Mississippi for the wedding of a dear friend. I’m looking forward to catching up with old friends and celebrating the happy couple, but I am not looking forward to packing. Luckily, I found Byrdie’s tips for packing toiletries. Packing toiletries has always been difficult for me. I’m so worried that my various lotions and liquids will leak all over my clothes. Putting a cotton ball on top of powdered products before you close the lid to prevent breaking is such a great tip!
Love It: Snapdragons have always been one of my favorite spring flowers. Last fall we planted tons of them in both the front and backyard flower beds. They are now in full bloom and I am loving all of the bright, cheerful colors!
Want It: There is nothing worse than getting a fabulous pair of shoes, only to realize they pinch so badly you can barely wear them. Since I plan on dancing the night away this weekend in some fabulous shoes, Sole Serum is on my list of things to buy. It’s a liquid serum that uses Lidocaine, Tea Tree Oil, Peppermint Oil, Lavender Oil to prevent and relieve foot pain. You just rub it on wherever your shoes will rub to relieve the pain. I’ll let you know what I think!
We love to cook on the grill during the spring. It keeps the house cooler because we aren’t heating the oven and it’s nice to sit on the patio for a pre-dinner cocktail. In my search for new and different recipes for the grill, I stumbled upon Giada De Laurentiis’ recipe for grilled portobello mushrooms. It’s super easy and delicious! Here’s the recipe, cut in half for two servings:
3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
2 large portobello mushrooms, stemmed & finned
salt & pepper
1 clove minced garlic
2 small tomatoes, chopped into small cubes
4 ounces fresh mozzarella, in small cubes
1/8 chopped fresh basil
(1) Heat grill to medium-high heat. Brush olive oil on grill to prevent sticking.
(2) Brush 1.5 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil over both sides of the mushrooms. Sprinkle with salt & pepper.
(3) Whisk 1.5 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil and garlic in a medium bowl to blend. Add chopped tomatoes, mozzarella, and basil. Toss to coat and season to taste with salt & pepper.
(4) Grill mushrooms, bottom (open) side down, for approximately 5 minutes.
(5) Flip mushrooms and spoon tomato mixture into the open mushroom caps. Grill for approximately 5 minutes, until mozzarella is melted and mushrooms are tender.
