We have been in our house for 7 years now & have been going through some redesigns lately. I’ll be sharing rooms here as we finish them. The entryway is an area that has been pretty much set since we moved in, with the exception of changing out smaller decor items. The entryway is the first thing that most people see, so we wanted the decor to fit in with the rest of our house. We also added some personal touches. Read on for my 4 tips on how to style an entryway!

Add storage. An entryway can quickly become a dumping ground for whatever is in your hands when you come through the door. Adding storage, like a dresser or console table, gives you a place to hide the clutter. We use the drawers in our antique dresser as a place to store odd & ends, scarves & gloves, & photographs. The space on top gave me an area to display photos, small art, & decor books.

Add lighting. Most entryways will have a chandelier or other ceiling light, but I like to add a small lamp to provide another light source with a softer glow. This acrylic bubble lamp used to be on my nightstand, but I moved it to the entry when we got new bedroom lamps. I also add candles that can lit when we have guests over. A combination of tapers & votives gives depth & height.

Add a mirror. A mirror is a must for any last minute checks or applying lipstick on the way out of the house. Our large mirror also helps to reflect light from the windows & brighten up a somewhat dark space.

Add pops of your personality. Your entryway is part of your home & should reflect your personality. I used stacks of books to add height & to display art. Patrick gave me the large standing flamingo & he adds a touch of my favorite animal to the entry. The ballet shoe was hand-painted by a local artist & I won it in an auction. I also have a few photos displayed, including our wedding picture that was signed at our reception. These additions make me smile whenever I walk through the door.
